The Situation

In the current environment, voters are demanding greater efficiency and accountability in government programs. Congressional lawmakers are even scrutinizing programs with a proven track record, such as Public Vocational Rehabilitation, Independent Living and Supported Employment. For example, legislation was proposed in 1995 which would have abolished Title I of the Rehabilitation Act and placed it in a consolidated grant along with other manpower training and employment programs. Funding could also be greatly reduced! Jobs would be lost. People with disabilities would not be served and would remain unemployed.
